Entry Planters for Commercial Entrances & Lobbies

First impressions matter. An entryway sets the tone for the experience people have once inside.

The benefits of entryway planters range from enhancing curb appeal to influencing consumer behavior. That’s why we’ve put this article together — to share ideas, inspiration, and guidance for choosing the right planters for commercial buildings.

Benefits of Entryway Planters

In a highly competitive commercial marketplace, stunning entryway planters can make a significant difference. The benefits of entryway planters include:

  • Elevating curb appeal. Attention and engagement cultivate opportunity. There’s no doubt about it — large, beautiful plants in planters generate attention and draw people in.

  • Encouraging spending. Once inside a commercial space, scientifically proven people-plant interactions can make a difference for businesses. In fact, a study published in the Journal of Forestry found that the average shopper spends 9-12% more — on goods and services — when surrounded by high-quality greenery.

  • Establishing an air of sophistication. The sleek, elegant design of modern planters creates a powerful allure. Entryway planters make powerful statements that can elevate the perception of your commercial space in the eyes of guests, customers, and employees.

  • Providing practical direction. Entryway planters can guide people on a particular path toward a specific place, like a hotel reception desk or a gift shop.

  • Calling attention to your entryway’s best features. Your entryway is more than just a door. Perhaps there is a large gorgeous window or another spot where you have an alluring display. Entryway planters can help draw the eye to these engaging points.

Using Entry Planters in Theaters and Cinemas

This next project took place in downtown Hollywood. This entertainment, shopping, and office complex is home to two iconic historical theaters: The Dolby Theater, where the annual televised Academy Awards ceremony is held, and the beautiful TCL Chinese 6 Theatre, a Los Angeles Historic Landmark.

The project’s landscape installation team engaged PureModern to manufacture aesthetic edging solutions for the grand staircases leading into the complex. For one unique planter, tailored toe kicks and top lips add the perfect finishing touch to a central pillar in this project.

Using Entry Planters for a Vineyard Wine Lounge

Help define different areas for visitors. At this private wine lounge, fiberglass planters combine aesthetics with functionality by separating the parking area from the ADA entrance doors. Planters were also used to define spaces in other areas throughout the property.

Using Entry Planters to Tie a Town Center Together

A bustling town center can be difficult to navigate. In this project, planters call attention to a town map, create visual interest outside the entryway to stores, hair salons, and restaurants. The planters also designate a functional perimeter along walkways and streets.

The sleek look of the modern planters contrasts beautifully with the brick exterior of several buildings and perfectly complements the contemporary exterior of other buildings.

In several entryways throughout the town center, this client chose to pair round pewter-colored planters with tall tapered planters — sometimes in the same color and sometimes in black — for an extra pop of aesthetic interest. The result is stunning.

Using Lobby Planters at Colleges & Universities

Essentially every building on a college campus has a lobby that can be redesigned to feel more inviting.

At Tulane University, the Lavin-Bernick Center now has a burst of foliage in two indoor lounge areas and an outdoor eating space. Whether taking a quick lunch break, meeting with a study group, or simply relaxing for a few minutes, this addition of greenery makes the space more inviting for both students and faculty.

Best Planter Materials for Entry Planters

Entryway planters will come in a variety of materials. You’ll want to consider durability and function when making a decision about which material is best for your project.

Here are a few considerations:

  • Powder-coated aluminum is a lightweight metal that is durable, won’t rust, and will last due to its innate properties and the powder-coating that is resistant to UV rays.

  • COR-TEN steel is designed to resist corrosion with a protective patina that forms on the surface. This stable rust-like appearance makes COR-TEN steel a stylish option that stands up to moisture and other natural elements without losing its strength. This material is best for outdoor applications.

  • Fiberglass planters are lightweight, durable, and versatile. While lightweight, fiberglass is still long-lasting, difficult to break, and highly resistant to cracking or warping. Fiberglass is resistant to mold, frost, and color fading from UV rays.
